Closed interval
Toe prints, heel skates, start line runs toward Covell Lake.
Winter rye at Terrace Park is greedy. It grabs a hanging toe and lets the heel skate. The ball starts right of the intended spire. Nils writes a closed interval and will not split the difference with a shrug.
Uprighting the lie opens the interval so the heel is allowed back into the conversation. Flattening a closed chord is how people dig trenches they then call “fat.” The ledger does not care about nicknames.
Closed intervals show up after a player shortens a club without rewriting the lie, or after a summer of dust at Covell followed by a November freeze. Bring both seasons in your head. Sable will ask.
